Faro Airport (FAO)
Airport Information
(Faro, Portugal)
The gateway to the gorgeous Algarve region of southern Portugal, the dazzling stretch of coastline along the southern edge of the country, Portugal Faro Airport (FAO) lies alongside the N125 highway and close to Monte Negro. This modern, single-terminal airport facility is just 7 km / 4 miles west of the city of Faro and handles about four 5.5 passengers every year, through numerous charter airlines and scheduled services.
Portugal Faro Airport is used mainly by holidaymakers and is therefore extremely busy during the summer season, when thousands of passengers arrive daily and head to the many nearby beach resorts. A public EVA bus service runs from the airport into Faro city centre, as does the airport shuttle, Aerobus. There is a timetable near the information desk detailing bus departure times.
Many passengers who have hotels around Faro booked will often be provided with free airport coach transfers. Taxis are readily available for fast and convenient transport linking destinations such as Albufeira, Carvoeiro, Ludo, Portimao, Praia da Rocha and Quinta do Lago. Car hire at Faro Airport is another popular transport option, giving visitors freedom to explore the Algarve at their own pace.
Portugal About Faro Tourism
The city of Fario is located in southern Portugal, within the appealing Algarve area, where it is the capital. Faro boasts some lovely beaches of its own and a pretty marina, as well as a number of interesting buildings around the cobbled streets of the Cidade Velha. Notable museums include the Museu Maritimo and the Museu Regional, located on the Praca de Liberdade
Most visitors flying into Portugal's Faro Airport (FAO) will bypass the city of Faro altogether and instead head for the beaches of the Algarve. The Algarve is the real attraction, lined as it is with numerous dazzling beaches and quality resorts. Amongst the highlights of the Algarve are cosmopolitan Portimao and Sagres, sleepy Tavira, and the ever popular Albufeira. In addition, there are many quaint and historic villages in the area that are worthy of exploration on days off from the beach.
